‘We See Incredible Things Ahead’
Arizona’s largest power utility has committed to delivering 100 percent, carbon-free electricity to its customers by 2050. Arizona Public Service (APS) currently derives 50 percent of its energy from green sources.
“We see incredible things ahead for Arizona, and are excited to power our state’s future with electricity that is 100 percent clean,” said Jeff Guldner, APS chairman and CEO.
APS said it would work to reach its goal through “intelligent investments” in renewable energy sources and developing technologies. At the same time, the utility will continue to modernize its electric grid that can support more renewables and minimize outages.
“As we set out to generate only clean power by 2050, it will mean transitioning away from coal,” Guldner noted. “We do not take that transition lightly, and are committed to working with our employees and stakeholders on the economic and other effects of retiring those assets.”
